Repeated Prompts for Password While Editing

Problem

While logged in to DMOZ you are prompted for your password. Despite entering your correct password you are prompted again. Remember, however, that it is normal to have to enter your password once to access the editor-side ( http://dmoz.org:8080/editors/ ) and once to access the fora ( http://forums.dmoz.org/ -- they are on different servers.

This behaviour may either be repeated ad infinitum, or there may be a brief pause between prompts.

Solution

This problem is typically caused by a corrupt password file on the DMOZ servers. Staff are the only people who can fix it.

If you encounter this problem you should visit the Bugs and Features forum to see whether the issue is already being addressed -- look for threads entitled 'Password failure', 'Password bug', 'Login problem', or something similar. If not, consider starting one to alert Staff to the problem. Choose a meaningful title such as 'Repeated Prompts for Password while Editing', and include a link to this article in the body.
